Selling Websites Offline

This is an extremely profitable work from home opportunity and you don’t have to know beans about creating Websites to capitalize on it. There are still millions of businesses out there without Websites. These are primarily brick and mortar operations with proprietors who have little understanding of the Internet and little knowledge of how effective a Website can be.

Opportunity Knocks
About a year ago I was waiting for my mechanic to finish up a brake job for me. I asked him if he had a Website and he said he didn’t. Then he laughed and asked what he would do with a Website. I asked him if he ever ran specials on his work. He said he did. I asked him how his customers knew about them. He replied that he usually put up a banner in front of the garage.

I then asked if he wanted more business. He gave me the dead-fish look, which said, of course he wanted more business. I suggested that he put up a two or three page Website explaining his services along with the charges. Then he could leave a clipboard in the waiting area with a lined sheet of paper attached and a sign on the wall that said. Sign up to be notified of our monthly specials on oil changes, etc. There would be a space for a name and email address.

People Need Websites
He told me it wouldn’t work because he didn’t know anything about Websites or sending out email to lots of people at the same time. I told him a kid could do it so he should just pay a kid to send out one or two specials to his customers a month because it would bring in a lot of business – business where he’d find a lot of deferred maintenance stuff to fix and bring a lot of new revenue to the bottom line.

He looked at me and said that maybe I was right. I’ve had similar conversations with a jewelry store owner and a pawnshop operator since. There’s definitely a market for offering simple Web services to business people who don’t yet have them and you don’t need to know a lot about Web design or hosting to do this. Not only that, it’s the perfect home based business.

You could charge a business owner $179 or more for a nice, smart-looking site with as many pages as he wanted. And I can guarantee you could get that work done for about one third of what you’d charge. And a lot less if you had some simple skills.

Coordinate And Prosper
Could you visit mom and pop businesses near you each day and take orders for these simple sites and pocket a hundred dollars per sale? The answer is yes. How many of these do you need to make a nice living? And if you invested the proceeds of just one sale into learning how to manage a simple Website you’d have residual income as you helped the business owner use their new marketing tools. Sometimes things are just too easy.

You can purchase smart-looking generic Web templates online and offer them to your prospects. You’d want to associate with a graphic designer that would do some minor customizing of the site for your clients. You might also want to have on tap the services of a freelance writer or two and offer these to your clients as well so they could get their message out.

As you grow into your new enterprise you might even consider offering Web hosting for your customers. Each of these additional services is relatively easy to outsource and manage. If you can act successfully as a coordinator, this might be just the business for you to run from home
