Is The Law Of Attraction Real?

The law of attraction is just as legitimate as the law of gravity. In fact, the law of attraction is perhaps the most consistent law of all the laws of the universe. That might seem like a lofty claim so please let me explain.

The law of gravity certainly is real. If it weren’t we’d all be floating around in the stratosphere or beyond. And like the law of attraction, gravity is relative. That’s why if you weigh 100 pounds on earth you’d weigh only about 17 pounds on the moon and a whopping 236 pounds on Jupiter. Why is that?

Because the pull of gravity is directly influenced by the mass of the planet on which we stand. What’s interesting about this is that the law of attraction also has the built-in relativity factor as well. How so?

The law of attraction essentially says that we attract into our lives the things that dominate our prominent thoughts and attitudes. There’s no getting around this, no negotiating, no rationalizing. It’s a fact. We become what we think about. If our thoughts are concentrated and focused we get tangible results. And if our thoughts are vague and undirected, it stands to reason that our lives are the same way.

Many people have trouble accepting this. They somehow think that they are victims of random chance. But we’re only victims of our own attitudes. I have a friend who considers himself a pretty honest guy. One of the reasons he feels so is that he goes to church regularly and is charitable.

He’s also a landlord with about a half dozen rentals. He just can’t seem to understand why his tenants so often move out in the middle of the night owing him back rent and leaving him with a huge mess to clean up. He complains that when they do that it’s like they’re stealing from him and I’d agree.

We sometimes talk about metaphysical topics and inevitably we end up discussing the law of attraction. He doesn’t buy it. His reasoning is that if we lived lives according to our thoughts and deeds he wouldn’t be getting ripped off regularly by his tenants because his thoughts and deeds are good ones.

When we discuss these matters I gently point out that like begets like and remind him that downloading ‘free’ pirated software and music (one of his favorite hobbies) is stealing just the same as stiffing the landlord is. But he won’t buy it. He’s able to rationalize it from here to the end of the earth. And so it goes.

I bring this up not because I’m a saint passing judgment but as an observer of the law. We reap the results of our thinking, and larcenous thinking, however it may be disguised or rationalized will return larceny. Of course, the law works in the opposite direction as well. I like to think of it like this: whatever you do, you do to yourself.

My wife has an aunt. She’s the sweetest, most gentle and loving woman you’d ever want to meet. She’s also about as dingy as a person could be. And guess what? She’s a multi-millionaire. To talk with her you wouldn’t know it. But she’s been buying just the right stocks for years and her portfolio is worth millions. If you asked her how she picks winning stocks she would talk all around the issue but wouldn't be able to explain. Go figure.

I realize these two examples are not scientific proof of anything because it’s impossible to evaluate another person’s behavior in enough detail. But for me, they are glaring examples of the law of attraction in action. What might you be attracting?
