Free Web Traffic With Press Releases
In continuing our discussion for gaining free targeted traffic for affiliate
marketers we’re going to look at a simple strategy that may not get much
attention yet can bring you some very powerful results.
Press Releases
A press release is a piece of news that typically covers these items:
- Who
- What
- Where
- When
- Why
- How (when appropriate)
Press releases should be written in a journalistic style covering the above
items. The problem I see with so many press releases is that they often come
across as glorified ads for a business or product. There are marketers out there
who swear that press releases are a waste of time. And it’s likely that people
offering that opinion don’t understand what it takes to produce a release that
is newsy along with being written in a journalistic style and cover the above
points.
Free or Paid Press Releases?
There are literally hundreds of outlets that will allow you to distribute your
press release for free. Simply do a search for free press release sites and
you’ll have more than you can handle in a week’s time. There are also sites
that charge for press release distribution. Here’s the thing about free versus
paid press release sites: with either, your results will depend directly on how
well-written your press release is.
So if that’s the case, why not learn to write them well and then start off
using free sites as a test. From there you can figure out whether it’s worth
it for you to go with paid releases, which should offer a wider distribution
audience along with other benefits.
Finding A Hook
If you’re promoting a business or product what should you write about and how
do you make it newsworthy? That can sometimes be a challenge but there is almost
always a way to find a unique and newsy spin to put on a press release. You
might want to talk about your grand opening or the fact that you’ve just gone
into business.
If you have a human interest aspect to what you’re offering be sure to
include it. In fact, it’s wise if you can find any hook related to current
events or a trend and relate it to your stuff. Another angle to use in writing
an excellent press release is a holiday, a professional sporting championship,
an election, the birthday of your company, your company’s founder, or an
historical event that relates to your product or company.
Do you market products that are environmentally friendly? That’s a topic
that people want to hear about. Does your product help consumers save money or
help them through tough times? Again, that’s something people need and have an
interest in hearing about. And if you’re having trouble finding an angle to
promote, create one! A contest is an excellent thing to write about.
HOT
TIP: And here's a hot tip in case you're promoting a
local business: send your release to the local media such as newspapers, radio
stations, television stations and educational establishments where appropriate.
Getting mentioned in such a venue could mean massive exposure leading to some
very nice sales.
Press releases can be a wonderful way to keep your business in the spotlight.
But to get maximum benefit from them you have to play by the rules. And once
again those rules focus on keeping the release news-oriented and written in a
journalistic style. And don’t forget to include a link back to your site. If
you’ve done a good job with the actual press release, people will want to know
more about you. Happy marketing!
