Electronic Gadget Tutor

Sometimes opportunity is right under our nose and we’re so close that it doesn’t even register. It’s likely that you have talents and abilities you’re not even aware of. For example, I’m almost ashamed to say this but I sometimes need to pull out the manual to figure out certain features of my cell phone. I’m fine with a computer or an MP3 player but I really don’t even like having to have a cell phone so I guess I’ve never warmed up to learning how to get the most from it.

Be that as it may, if you happen  to be handy with electronic gadgets your abilities are actually in big demand. I know lots of baby boomers as well as people much younger than the boomer generation that are challenged when it comes to figuring out how to work certain gadgets.

The Gadget-Challenged Are Everywhere!
There used to be an old joke going around back when VCRs were first popular about gadget-challenged folks that had the digital time readout blinking for years after they first got the unit because they couldn't figure out how to set it. Well guess what, plenty of people are still puzzled, and that spells opportunity for you.

So where do you fit into the solution? It’s easy. If you naturally have a knack for operating electronic devices and can explain how to get the most from a device to the gadget-challenged, you’ve got the makings of a really cool little business.

The truth is, there are lots of people who simply cringe at the thought of having to do something beyond the simplest of functions with an organizer, an iPhone, a GPS device, an MP3 player, a DVD or entertainment system remote setup, a computer, or any electronic device that comes with an operator’s manual thicker than a recipe for scrambled eggs.

Get The Word Out
Your customers are everywhere. You’ll find them in office buildings, apartments or condos, gathered at churches, community centers and the list goes on and on. You might consider printing up a small flyer outlining what you do and which gadgets you’re able to explain. If you really want to get into it, you might consider writing out simple instructions for the more popular items you’ll be working with – a sort of cheat sheet. You could even go online and start collecting PDF manuals for the more popular devices and put them on disc for your customers.

With your marketing plan in place just make the rounds at the places mentioned above and explain what you do. You’re going to be flabbergasted to find out how many customers you’ll pick up simply by getting the word out. Here’s why: many people have learned only the bare basics, if anything about the stuff they need to use every day.

When you let them know what you do you’re going to see the lights go on over their head and a look of relief in their eyes when they realize they can get personal instruction for learning how to use a device that’s easy for you. You’ll be a savior of sorts while offering a valuable service.

Free Ads For Your Gadget Tutor Business
In addition to getting the word out in person you’ll want to post a free ad for your services on CraigsList as well as supermarket bulletin boards. You might even want to put up a little Website explaining your services and offer free tips on the site. The opportunities are endless.

You might consider charging by the hour or even half hour when less time would be appropriate. Yep, you’ve got the skills and people need to learn ‘em. That’s a match made in heaven for the smart entrepreneur. You are a smart entrepreneur, aren’t you?
